Over the last few weeks there has been an incredible groundswell of excitement that for the first time the leaders of youth-led organisations will come together in Canberra. We have seen an incredible number of applications to attend, which demonstrates that this Convention is well overdue! We’re really looking forward to bringing this excitement together and fostering professional development and the development of the youth-led sector as a whole.

In consultation with our convention partner, the Australian Government, we have decided that the postponement of the convention is necessary for the subsequent reasons.

  • The extended caretaker period as a result of the current political situation has complicated arrangements and bookings related to holding the Convention;
  • As a result of this situation and uncertainty we have concluded that the short lead time from confirmation of attendance to the convention will result in some cases prohibitive travel costs, reducing the broad cross section of the sector the convention is aiming to bring together.

We have subsequently decided to change the date of the Convention to Friday 26 – Sunday 28 November 2010 with the following schedule.

Key dates:

  • 13th September – Applications Close (extended date)
  • 17th September – Delegates Announced
  • 26th–28th November – Australian Youth Led Convention

What is the impact on attendees?

The new schedule allows for a lead time of more than two months for delegates to book travel and accommodation, resulting in lower costs to attending.

Applicants are reminded not to book flights or accommodation until their position has been confirmed by email on 17 September.

The travel subsidy of at least $100 will still be available to all delegates (excluding ACT).

The Convention is now after university exams.

Can I still apply?

Yes! Apply online before 13 September.

We look forward to seeing you in Canberra for one of the most momentous events in the history of the youth-led sector!

On what criteria will applicants be selected?

First, each applicant must meet the minimum requirements outlined here. As positions are limited and a diverse range of attendees is desired applicants will be selected on their ability to either a) learn a great deal from the Convention or b) contribute to the learning of other attendees. As a result not all applicants will be selected to attend but are encouraged to apply for subsequent years as the opportunity arises.
